With Canada Day just around the corner, many of us are thinking about what we can plan with our family and friends while following public health guidelines. While restrictions are starting to lift in Ontario, it is still important to remain safe if gathering with those outside your household. Here are some tips on how to have a safe and fun gathering:
Host a rear garden barbecue. Everyone enjoys a great barbeque in the summer, especially on Canada Day. Make sure you have only one cooking station at the grill and one person handling the food. Ask your guests to keep a safe distance from others and avoid too many people touching the plates of food. Set up some chairs around your rear garden, provide disposable dinnerware, and you’re ready to have a safe barbecue!
Make an outdoor movie night. If you have a projector and a sheet, then you’re ready to host your very own outdoor movie night right in your rear garden. Set up some blankets and pillows six feet apart, add some outdoor lights for ambiance, and you can’t forget snacks! Put popcorn in individual bags, drinks in disposable cups, and there you have it, your very own outdoor movie theatre!
Have a virtual celebration. If any of your family members or friends are unable to attend or uncomfortable with in-person gatherings, you can plan a virtual Canada Day themed celebration. Have your friends dress in red and white, play virtual games, or have virtual happy hour!
Despite the pandemic there are still ways to be positive and enjoy those close to us while remaining physically not so close! It is mind over matter. We live in a wonderful country and have so many reasons to celebrate. Be safe and enjoy!
